It was a role
she never anticipated
never wanted, left
to her sisters to carry
the genetic line forward.
And she spent
the last half-century
of her life
trying to forget
the role she played
and had to abandon.
Although she now is
two decades gone
on the second Monday
of May I now stop
bless her and mourn her
for performing the role
that brought me into being
