As sight slowly slips away, as
the macula continues its retreat,
the sense of your senses must change.
We are driven by sight; and sound, taste
touch and smell are really just valued adjuncts.
The Bard of Avon suggested that the eyes
are windows to the soul, and oh how many
seers want to help you look into the future.
We are told to look at our past mistakes,
not to hear or touch them, just as we
are always striving to see what lies ahead.
But when your sight begins to fail you
the other, the seemingly lesser senses
come to the fore, assume their places
as equals and you discover that sound
is often the overlooked key to the hidden
cache of memories that the eyes
could not hope to see, so listen carefully
for the world remains in all it fullness
waiting patiently for you to hear it.
