It is now easy to imagine a world
where dystopia lies in waiting
around every corner, always out
of sight, always ready to pounce.
Now imagine a world, this world
if in 1492 it was a woman who
discovered this land, and women
who made all of the decisions.
Men could still go to war, but only
if women decided the war was warranted.
It would be women gathered
in Philadelphia writing a document
about which we debate endlessly,
when all would have an equal vote,
regardless of skin or origin.
In this world imagine how things
would be different, how many wars
would never have occurred, how
equality would not be a concept
but a perpetual reality, and then
Imagine what might be lurking
around the next corner where
dystopia once sat in waiting.
