Setting apart, that is our skill:
bifurcating, creating dualities.
Is it that unity scares us, certainty
unavoidable, no room to escape,
to deny, to invoke missing nuance?
One of my religious heritages
says you remove head coverings
on entering a sanctuary, the other
that you put one on upon doing so.
One says you are born a sinner
the other says until a certain age
you cannot sin since you lack
what lawyers like to call mens rea.
And why didn’t someone take notes
when God created the world?
Did he start on Saturday night or Monday?
But then again at least a four day work
week should make everyone happy.
