The history books tell me
that Gaius Julius Caesar
the great emperor of Rome
died on March 15, 44 B.C.E.
In my dream last night
I ran into Caesar and he
said he was not happy that
the month named after
his nephew, the one he chose
to succeed him had as many
days as did his, it should,
he complained, have had
at least one if not two less.
But what really Gauls him,
he laughed,”is the whole
Common Era thing.”
Every good Roman knows
he said that he was killed
on the Ides of Martius in the
year 710 Ab urbe condita
and he wants to know where
we got off changing that.
I was about to answer as best
I could when, thankfully
the alarm ended our talk.
