We know it is a matter of time
before the rains will come,
the hurricanes will wail
and inundate our world.
We have planned for this
and we know we are not ready.
We will be overwhelmed
as we are each time, homes
lost to floods that rise
from an angry ocean tired
of not being heeded.
We will bail, pump and mop,
wage a losing battle
against the water that is
an undefeatable foe, and
we will be told that fully
awash and drowning, we
must boil our drinking water
or buy bottled for the maelstrom
is unfit for human consumption.
