HOW MANY

The better question, the one
for which there can be
no real answer, is
how many couples of our age
would be together today,
would never have gotten together,
if we had cell phones
and tablets when we were young.
The use of that word alone
strongly hints at what
I imagine that answer to be.
A telephone, landline
they now call it, required presence,
required you to be a single place
tethered by an unyielding cord.
And beyond mere words, visuals
came only with a meeting and
from that moment anything could happen.
