CHANGES

Each morning after arising
I look in the mirror
I imagine everything is the same
as the day before
I imagine everything has changed
f rom the day before.
I do ask the mirror what it
believes has changed, what it
believes has stayed the same.
Most days it says nothing, merely
stares back at me, mocking.
Occasionally the mirror will concede
that it is another day older
an immeasurable bit dimmer
and as for me it has nothing
to say that would not disappoint
so it remains mute and allows me
to continue whatever delusion
I choose to operate under that day.
