When a marriage comes apart
as so many do, it seems,
there is always someone
watching from the sidelines
who, while not being asked,
offers up an “I knew this
would happen from the start.”
The “I told you so’s” pointing
to a moment in the heart
of the now doomed marriage
are irritating enough, but
the “I knew it’s” are unforgivable.
And when it happens so few
going through the dissolution
want to say what needs be said
which is, simply, “Please shut up,
you had your chance to speak then,
and you just held your peace.”
