BY MOONLIGHT

We are waiting patiently, for that
is what you have demanded.
We have seized your promises, held them
dear, we have done your bidding
without question, without objection, and still
in our moment of need you dessert us.
You have turned your face away
from us, refused to cast your eyes
on us, you hide when we most need you
and all too often offer only a glance.
But we will not, cannot, turn away
from you for you are a beacon
through the darkest nights, it is
you by which we measure time,
by which we know when we should
seek the peace that dreams afford us.
So we wait and we pray for the fullness
of your blessing, which we know
will eventually be forthcoming.
