Mother always bought Hydrox cookies
and I thought nothing of it, although
I did wonder why my friends said that
kind of cookie was best dipped in milk.
I dipped our Hydrox in milk and they
fell apart, a soggy mess and not quite
a chocolate milk that anyone would drink.
It was years later I learned that
there was another brand which cost
a bit more than Hydrox, a brand it seems
everybody but us knew all about,
and my children could dip their cookies
in milk and never have the soggy mess,
and the slightly higher price for Oreos
was, in the long run, more than worth it.
