The real problem with prophecy,
at least of the Biblical sort, is that
it has failed to keep up with our
ever changing, mutating times.
We no longer tend to use spears
in much of the world, and the call
for pruning hooks has diminished
to the point few know what they are.
And thanks to John Deere and all
of the other farm implement companies
the mechanization of farming has
so refined the plowshare that
no sword, if you could even hope
to find one could be fashioned
to suit the purposes of today’s farmer.
Were that not enough, we know
that beating a nuclear weapon
or a cruise missile for that matter
won’t yield anything of value
although it might serve well
to reduce the local population.
