Basho wanted to be in Kyoto
when he was in Kyoto
but perhaps it was the cuckoo
that led him to think that
he might be elsewhere, perhaps
not even in Japan although
he had never left Japan.
I had the same feeling about
Ireland, except that then
I had never been in Ireland.
I know, now, it was my genes
that wanted to be in Ireland,
but in Ulster, which sadly is
technically not in the Irish
Republic but England, but
the people there are wholly Irish.
And I have been to Ireland,
so I am one up on Basho, but
take longer to make my point.
