I wonder what you hear when I
say certain things, do you hear
only the words or do you hear
the hidden thought. For my sake
I do hope it is the former.
When I say “It’s been a pleasure”
do you hear “I’m so glad its over.”
When I say “Let’s do it again soon”
do you hear “after hell freezes over.”
When I say “Normally I’d be glad to go”
do you hear “that’s about the
last thing in the world I’d like to do.”
When I say “How do you look so young”
do you hear “My God you’ve aged.”
When I say “He means well”
do you hear “He’s evil, vile and
despicable and selfish to boot.”
I thought so, that last one,
that’s the one where you hear
what I really meant and not said.
