He reminds us that we are also
apex predators just like the raptors,
bald eagle, hawks, osprey, and while
their numbers have once again grown
from the edge of extinction, we have
moved ever closer to it with our chemical
solution to problems, our greed,
our demand for what we desire,
our environment be damned.
He says the birds would speak to us
but they cannot speak our language
and so remain mute, but I know that
it is we who are deaf, we who refuse
to hear what they are clearly saying,
we who anthropomorphize rather
the being simply one more species
trying to get by in the world we share.
