LOBSTER SHACK

It squatted on the corner
backed by an L shaped strip
plaza, a grocery store, shoes,
pool supplies, a bank, all dated
and wholly nondescript.
It was a gas station, major brand,
four gas pumps, one diesel
but the service bays had been gutted
of their large liftsthat once
gave the mechanics access
to the bellies of the metal beasts
and now housed two giant tanks
and half a dozen freezers
and the sign on the window
made it clear this was a place
you came to fill your car
and pick out a lobster or two
in some frozen King crab legs
and you knew which business
truly made the owners money.
