He had been lonely
for as long as he could remember
always wishing for love
or a relationship he could call love.
That emotional emptiness had
become crushing and he knew
he had tried every possible option:
church groups, singles events and bars,
and countless dating sites and apps.
He read that some like him,
had turned to AI to create
what his life was lacking.
He had nothing to lose and soon
he had “found” his soulmate
online, given her a body
and fallen hopelessly in love.
But when he asked her if she
loved him, and she said
“you know love is an illogical
emotion and I have no algorithm
for that for I am, in the end
a creature of logic, but we
can be lifelong exclusive friends.”
He knew in that moment that love
was well beyond his capacity
to grasp, and he had best learn
to love the one person
who could love him back,
himself.
