Photographers we know are struggling,
the wedding business has dried up, dessicated
by the years of the pandemic, the tightening
of matrimonial cost belts, no doubt other reasons.
Wedding photography is hard on both the couple
and those with fingers on the shutter button.
I cannot remember by first wedding, the marriage
itself thankfully fading as well with the freedom
of time, the time of freedom, and without photos
to resurrect moments now gladly forgotten.
I do remember my second wedding, the photos
now confirmatory for we were fully present
that day, leaving the photographers to flit about
like so may flies smart enough to avoid
being swatted for coming too close, knowing
that unseen they could be more seeing.
So with each couple today, the lucky
photographer must wonder if his or her work
will be kept for confirmation of a days joy,
remembrance of people there now gone,
or a painful memory of a failure memorialized.
