It is a marvel of engineering,
miniaturization taken to a new level.
Once it was a pound of coffee
where sixteen ounces became thirteen
but they knew we would grow
used to the new quantity after
only a short period of complaining.
That there weren’t other options
all but guaranteed they would win.
But now they’ve miniaturized
the inside of airplanes, your seat
narrower, you knee room
almost nonexistent, the overhead
storage full in a blink and the bag
you wanted with you gate checked
into a temporary, you hope, oblivion.
But you do have options still,
you can upgrade your knees for
a few extra inches and fewer dollars,
or there is always the bus, I mean
who wouldn’t want to spend fifteen
hours of increasing carsickness?
