We had better hope that nature
doesn’t adopt that old adage
that revenge is a dish best served cold.
Come to think of it, perhaps she
his toying with it now by her actions
given the climate changes we have wrought,
And us always thinking nature would
somehow become subservient to us.
But you can only defy the laws
of nature for so long, and we
have abandoned the law of survival
of the fittest, replaced it with the new law
of survival of the heaviest armed
for we are a nation which imagines
that the gun, the bomb, the missile
is the source and fruit of our identity.
But nature knows otherwise and
sadly will soon explain it to us,
in the worst sorts of detail we ever see.
