A RUNG TOO HIGH

He is fully stuck on the horns
of a dilemma from which he
can see no way to extricate himself.
He needs to get up on the roof
and patch the hole before
the storm shortly arrives full force.
The old wooden ladder that has
been lying along the side
of the house is far too heavy for him
to maneuver into position and far
taller than the job requires.
The new metal ladder he has
never used is a pretzel he cannot
begin to figure out. Even as the first
drops begin to fall ever harder
he retreats into the house
two large buckets in hand, cursing
everything and everyone involved
with the modern ladder contraption,
one they advertise as having
hundreds of uses, just not the one
for which he finally needed it.
