We stand together on the precipice
knowing soon nothing will be as it was
for her and I, a supportive observer only.
In moments the world she knew will
collapse possibly, replaced by something
no one has been able to describe to her.
She is excited for this new world but
there is a fear she cannot shake for she
is venturing where she never expected
to go, a place described by others as
a heaven or a hell, where nothing
is ever the same until, with luck
and practice it is again, or roughly so.
But her world had grown smaller, she
was trapped in an ever more silent
prison, struggling to hear the life
teeming around her, reluctant to venture
too far from the cocoon we had built.
She knew that this leap was one that
she needed to take, the risks be damned
and when the implant was activated
the new world unfurled before them both.
