The rain finally fell today, a deluge
worthy of Noah but NOAA assures us
this is only a three day storm and the next
thirty-seven will not mirror it, at least
not fully they think they believe.
The weather here, the outer skin
of nature, is too often a petulant child
forever not satisfied with how things are,
wanting things different, wanting
more, wanting none if the mood
hits it just right, and we, of course,
would like to think ourselves as
parents able to lead nature on a path
that we choose, knowing all the while
we are simply conveniently present and
never in charge of more than our wishes.
We needed the rain, the last dry tantrum
having gone on far too long, but we
wanted it in moderation, but our
childlike weather here has no concept
of moderation, so we must simply
once again batten down the hatches
and wait for the storm to pass.
