It shouldn’t be all that hard
really, it should be almost
second nature, after all
I grew up Jewish, and kept
to it until I was past forty
and I still have half my genes
that should remember for me.
But here I am, sweating bullets
following arcane directions
and hoping for a decent outcome.
You wouldn’t think that
making bagels would be
all that difficult, but perhaps
it is why Jews always
get theirs from a bakery
that specializes in them,
and many of those bakers
are not even Jewish.
