NEATLY PRESSED

I have decided to stop
wearing the only suit I now own.
It is the one I only wear to weddings
or to funerals, or a bar mitzvah.
the problem is that it needs
to be a happy, if only slightly,
suit and lately it seems
deaths outnumber weddings
and Bar or Bat Mitzvahs
only count as neutral now
that I no longer practice Judaism.
I know there will be funerals
that I will have to attend, but
I will just wear the old blue blazer
that is hidden away in a corner
of my closet, a bit informal
but I doubt the guest of honor
will notice or care at all.

All the funerals and memorial events…of our peers now, not just of their/our parents. Mortality’s the thing, and it doesn’t require a suit.
