We are both master and slave
and reverberating between roles
can be exhausting and exhilarating,
on occasion both simultaneously.
It seems we are always striving
to catch up to technology, that it
is outpacing us and that the race
may soon enough be lost.
We say that we cannot live without
these technologies and while they
may do things faster and more simply
they do so with what skills and methods
we imbued them with, nothing more.
Of course there is fear, that is a part
of our hard wiring, the tool replacing
the stone, gunpowder replacing
the spear and sword, and so on.
But, while we feel we cannot live
without and with our technology,
it does help to keep in mind
the old axiom of computer science:
garbage in, garbage out, although
that ought not make us feel better.
