Some of his acquaintences said his problem
was that he constantly demonstrated
antipathy toward people, toward things.
He knew, of course, that was not the
case but he dared not say that lest
they use it as yet another example
of his antipathy. The reason, he left
unsaid, was that he didn’t have antipathy,
it was that such an emotion
required feelings about things and
people, strong feelings actually,
and he had no such feelings,
neither like nor dislike, love nor hate..
He was emotionally detached,
often bordering on apathy.
He knew this but, of course,
he didn’t, couldn’t bother to care.
