She is so often present
as the sun makes its
daily retreat, we
imagine she is
mysterious as
she hides, or
does she take
refuge in the shadows.?
Only a few
have truly seen her
and they speak only
of her luminescent
alter ego.
It is certain that they are coming,
and you assume or hope it is for me,
but what if they are coming for you?
You think that they will not find you
but they know where you are,
so where will you try to hide?
You think that you will be safe,
that they will ignore you, that you
can hide, but if they find you
what will happen, at what cost?
Will you be ready, will you stand
and oppose them or reluctantly
welcome them when they refuse
to leave, demand more, demand all?
Perhaps it is me they will come for
and you need not worry, perhaps
they will stop now and not come, but
can you live in a world of perhaps?
It slipped away. He had no idea where it had gone, but he knew he had to find it. It could have been accidental, an errant passer opening the gateway and off it went. But he was so reliant on it that he knew he could not do much of anything without it. And he couldn’t get help finding it without endless waiting, a waste of time that put him even farther behind. But it was stealthy, and could easily hide in plain site. He hadn’t wanted to adopt it, but he had, and it had consumed him. It was that simple, life without broadband was unimaginable.
the morning dew smiles
the rising sun stares deeply
later a merger
the egret stands fixed
wishing he was a statue
the rippling pond laughs
clouds blacken the sky
the sun plays hide and go seek
we watch patiently.
winter is lurking
but swaying palms reject it
it retreats northward
