CIRCLES

He took us slowly through hell
making sure we stopped regularly
to feel the anguish, the heat of Hell’s fires,
to ensure we would never forget our visit.
Would’ve liked to assure him
the single circle would be more than sufficient,
to was already excessive, and we were incensed
by the third, but he would have none of that.
He believes the journey had to be completed,
and that we had to relish such each moment
spent in his company and hell.
We all knew what was to come of course,
but for most of us this was required, so there we were.
He was right about one thing, though:
all these years later, I remember well
each painful moment and hope that he
now enjoys eternity in some classroom
in hell, with Dante as his teacher.
